Welcome to 2024! I'm kicking off the new year with a brand new Fabric Refresh blog post. There are so many great fabric collections coming up this year and I hope I can keep up and share my refreshed patterns with you!
Today's featured fabric collection is already available and has been for a bit. It seems to still be fairly easy to find though. It's Sharon Holland's Juniper collection for Art Gallery Fabrics.
This collection has a very cozy feel to it and is perfect for this time of year! Let's get right to the refreshed quilts.
The first pattern that I refreshed with Juniper is Evening Glow. I originally designed this quilt with a light background and dark accent, but as I've refreshed this quilt a few times over the years, I'm finding that I like it even better with a dark background and a light accent.
Here I've used one of the dark green prints for the background with solid white for the accent squares. The pattern calls for 16 fat quarters but since this collection doesn't have a lot of prints, especially if you want to leave out the ones that blend in too much with the background or accent, I made this mockup as though I used 8 half yards.
I continued with the dark backgrounds for two different versions of my Friendship pattern. The dark green is a small scale print that reads as a solid from a distance and the dark gray has some pretty little flowers on it. You can choose whether you like the more solid look or the busier option!
This pattern is written for precut strips which Art Gallery doesn't offer, but you can get the number of strips needed from 11 fat quarters.
Next I refreshed Shining Stars which is one of my favorite fat quarter patterns. This pattern was actually written with a dark background in mind so that the white accent really stands out. The tough part is deciding what color or what print to use for the background! I came up with three versions that I really liked.
Another fun fat quarter pattern is Starry Skies. This pattern combines two of my favorite types of quilt blocks - stars and chains! I used the dark gray print for the chains so they would stand out among the other fabrics.
This quilt requires more fat quarters than there are prints in the Juniper collection so I refreshed this quilt as if I was using 10 half yards instead of 19 fat quarters.
The next refreshed quilt is my Stay Square pattern. This pattern has instructions for both precut 10-inch squares and fat quarters. Art Gallery does have precut squares, but if you want to avoid the light prints or the stripes, you probably won't have enough squares left to make the quilt. So I recommend using the fat quarter option and picking which 12 prints you want to use.
Finally, I refreshed my Wanderlust pattern in Juniper. There are two versions of Wanderlust included in the pattern. One has a variety of prints for the chains with a plain background and the other version has plain chains with a variety of prints in the background. I went with the second option for this mockup. I also cut down on the number of blocks. The pattern uses one fat quarter per block. I used 20 blocks instead of the 25 in the pattern and assumed that I used 10 half yards to make this mockup.
