Hello and happy Friday! I'm back today with another edition of Friday Fabric Refresh and this week is all about the Quilty Love Palette Picks fat quarter bundle that is a collaboration between pattern designer Emily Dennis of Quilty Love and Robert Kaufman Fabrics.
I fell in love with this bundle as soon as Emily first announced it a few months ago. The fabrics she chose are so colorful and happy and they look great together! I immediately began thinking about what I would make with it!
I have already made a quilt with this bundle, but I have a separate blog post planned for that later so I'm not going to share that here (although I have shared it on Instagram if you haven't seen it already).
Of course, I had to try out this fabric in my other patterns as well!
The quilt above is my Garden Charm pattern. This quilt can be made with as few as six fat quarters, but you can use as many as you want! It might be hard to see here, but I used the tan gingham from the bundle for the accent fabric. It can be a little tricky to find, but it is from the Carolina Gingham collection from Robert Kaufman.
If you want to use all 20 fat quarters in the bundle, my Treasure Hunt pattern would be a great option! These blocks are big and bold and really let the fabrics shine!
Stargazing would also work as a 20-block quilt. The pattern is written for 25 blocks, but just skip a row and you will be left with 20 blocks!
Not a big fan of every fabric in the bundle? No problem! If there is just one that you don't want to use, you would still have enough to make a Starry Skies quilt which uses 19 fat quarters. I used a solid black as the accent in this mock-up.
Pick a second fabric to leave out and you could use the remaining 18 fat quarters to make Americana. Don't let the pattern name fool you! I may have made the original quilt in reds and blues, but this quilt looks great in a rainbow of colors too!
Have a few more fabrics you'd rather not use? My Honey Squares pattern was designed for honey buns but includes instructions for 15 fat quarters. In the version shown below, I did use the three tan fabrics as the accent (you'll need more than a fat quarter of each if you do this), so those three plus the 15 needed for the main part of the blocks does mean using 18 fabrics from the bundle, but you could use something completely different for the accent and only use 15 from the bundle. Be creative!
I've shared this next quilt in a previous Friday Fabric Refresh post for my Good Fortunes pattern, but it's so good that I have to share it again! This one uses 16 fat quarters and I used the white and tan stripe from the bundle for the sashing. It is one of the Essex Yarn Dyed Classic Wovens.
Finally, I also wanted to see what this fabric looked like with my Metro pattern. This pattern has always had a very modern vibe to it and so does this fabric bundle. This pattern is written for honey bun strips or charm pack squares, but you could easily cut what you need from fat quarters. You would even have plenty of fabric to make both this quilt and the Garden Charm quilt at the beginning of this post with one bundle! Now that's getting your money's worth!
I hope you enjoyed these refreshed patterns in the Quilty Love Palette Picks bundle! If there are other patterns of mine that you would like to see in these fabrics, let me know in the comments and I'll see what I can do in a future Friday Fabric Refresh post! In the meantime, happy sewing!
Until next time,
Amanda
