I have a new pattern to share! That may not seem like a big deal but it's the first pattern I've managed to release since my Ophelia pattern exactly one year ago! And it feels really, really good!
The pattern is Wayward and you can find it in my pattern shop now! It is a jelly-roll friendly quilt pattern that is here just in time for National Sew a Jelly Roll Day, a day full of all things jelly roll hosted by Moda Fabrics. That fun is happening this Saturday, September 16th, but that doesn't mean you can't get a head start on a Wayward quilt!
Wayward may be written for a jelly roll, but you can also use quarter yards, fat quarters, or fat eighths. You can even use your stash! The pattern has all the details!
This pattern is a variation of a woven design. I added some extra scrappiness to each block for a little extra interest. And of course, an on-point block setting often makes a design look even better, in my opinion.
Strip piecing makes this a really fast one to sew up! I had my three samples made in no time and I plan to whip up two more before the end of the year! Sometimes a pattern will surprise me with how fast it goes together and this was one of those times.
I used a jelly roll of Lil by Kimberly Kight for Moda Fabrics to make this quilt. Kimberly always has such happy fabric lines. My favorite prints in this collection were the apples and florals. I used the cream print with white flowers from the Lil collection for the background. (If you need some tips on working with white-on-white fabrics, check out this blog post). That cream print is getting hard to find, but you might find some shops selling it HERE.
I used the navy apple print for the backing and the pink small floral for the binding.
I sent my quilt to Rhonda of Olie and Evie to longarm quilt my quilt top for me. She has quilted several quilts for me and they always turn out great! I chose to use the Happy pantograph for this quilt and I love how it turned out!
As I mentioned earlier, I have made three Wayward quilts so far. One was made with Sunnyside by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics and the other was made with a curated fat quarter bundle of red and blue Art Gallery Fabrics from the Etsy shop Binded With Love.
