Happy Friday!  If you're in the US, I hope you're getting ready for a long weekend!  A couple of weeks ago, a new issue of Quilts & More magazine hit newsstands.  It is their summer issue and the quilt on the cover is my pattern!  The magazine editors are calling it Mad About Plaid and you can see it below.

I used Riley Blake Confetti Cotton Solids for my quilt.  The exact colors are Brick, Ballerina, Off White, and Riley Navy.

When I posted about this quilt on social media recently, I asked if there were other color combinations that you wanted to see this quilt refreshed with.  There were several great suggestions and I tried to get them all.  I'm also sharing some of my own refreshed versions of Mad About Plaid.  So get ready for quilt mockup overload!

A quick note about colors in these images.... I used the solid colors that are available in my Electric Quilt 8 software.  They do not correspond to actual solid fabrics so I do not have fabric names or manufacturers to share.  If you see a color combo that you like, you can use your favorite solids brand and look for colors that look similar.

I chose red, white, and blue for my quilt because the magazine editor was looking for patriotic projects.  I went with red for the main plaid portion of the quilt and navy as the accent, but you could easily swap those and still have a patriotic quilt.

Want a quilt for a different holiday?  How about a black and orange quilt for Halloween or a green and red quilt for Christmas?

You could even make a Valentine's Day quilt using reds and pinks.

Are you a sports fan?  You could make a quilt in your team's colors!  I was born and raised in Steeler Country so I mocked up a black and gold quilt.

These days I live in Houston and while I'm not really a sports fan myself and definitely not a baseball fan (no offense to anyone!) I know the Houston Astros are popular around here and it's currently baseball season.  I had to see what an Astros version of Mad About Plaid would look like.

This quilt would also make a great graduation gift for the teens in your life by using their school's colors.  My high school was blue and gold.

Another route to take with this pattern is to choose various shades of your favorite color.  I made purple and blue versions below but this would work with any color!

If you don't want to use the same color for the entire quilt, you can use your favorite color for the main part of the quilt and choose something else for the accent.  I played around with several options.  Choose two similar colors for a quilt that looks somewhat monochromatic but with a little more interest, such as gold and brown or green and aqua.

Or choose two completely different colors to really mix things up!  There are endless possibilities and these are just a few that I really liked.

Need a quilt with a sophisticated feel?  How about a gray, black, and white quilt?  If that's a little too colorless for you, you could dress it up by adding red or teal.

I also really liked this gray and teal version when I flip-flopped the colors.

There were several comments on my Instagram post asking to see this quilt in various combinations of green and purple.  That must be a popular combo!  I created a few different versions based on those comments.

That's all for today!  I hope you found some inspiration from these refreshed versions of my Mad About Plaid quilt.  Be sure to grab a copy of the Summer 2022 issue of Quilts & More magazine.  If you can't find it at your local bookstore, grocery store, or drug store, you can get a digital copy here.

What color(s) would you use? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,

Amanda
