Fabric Refresh - Swiss Roll Quilt

I just released my latest pattern, a precut friendly pattern called Swiss Roll. If you missed the blog post about it, you can find that here

This post is all about showcasing how well other fabric collections can work with this pattern! Swiss Roll is a very scrappy quilt and it's hard for a scrappy quilt to not look good no matter what fabric you're using! Swiss Roll is no exception!

I picked a few recent fabric collections that I love and mocked up the pattern with them. The pattern has two size options so I made a few in the square throw size and a few in the large throw size.

Let's jump right in!

First up, I have Swiss Roll in Parlor by Crystal Manning for Moda Fabrics. I think the precuts of this collection are arriving in shops now but I have not seen the yardage yet.

The designer picked out a few Moda Bella solids that coordinate with Parlor. One of those solids is Prune and that is the dark purple that I have used for the background in the mockup above. I think it looks amazing! I'm am so tempted to make this version but I'm telling myself that I do not have time to make another Swiss Roll!

If you're more partial to light backgrounds, I think the quilt also looks great in Porcelain, another coordinating Bella solid, like the mockup below.

Next up is The Coastal Collection from Sewing Down South for Robert Kaufman. This is a collection (I think his debut fabric collection) from Craig Conover of the Bravo series Southern Charm. These colors are so pretty and I really love the dark blue print as the background in the first mockup below. If you're going for a ligher, more airy feel, a white background works just as well.

I'm not sure about the availability of this collection. It was supposed to be out in August, but I haven't seen it yet. Fat Quarter Shop, for example, typically has almost every collection and I don't see it there, even as a future collection that you can be notified about. If you want to check out the collection in more detail, you can check the Robert Kaufman page (you might even notice that they used my Stay Square pattern as a sample project!!)

Actually, I might need to amend my thought that Fat Quarter Shop has almost everything because I know Washi Plus by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Ruby Star Society is arriving in shops because several shops on Etsy have it in stock, but nothing on FQS so far. Anyway, this is another collection that looks great with either a dark or light background. In both versions, I used the print with little washi tape rolls on it for the background.

Another recent Ruby Star Society collection that I like is Geometry, a collaborative collection from all the Ruby Star designers. I only used a light background for this one because there was exactly one very light print in the collection that looks almost like a solid, which makes it perfect for backgrounds! That then allowed me to use each of the remaining prints in the quilt while still keeping a lot of contrast, which helps to make the overall quilt design pop.

Sunbonnet by My Sew Quilty Life for Moda Fabrics should start showing up in shops any day now. This designer always comes through with soft tones and colors and dainty prints and Sunbonnet is no exception!

I made my cover sample for Swiss Roll in Sunday Brunch by BasicGrey (which you can see in more detail on this blog post) but earlier this year, BasicGrey released a collection called Acorn Hollow that caught my eye as soon as I saw it. If you want to make a quilt that gives off cozy fall vibes without the stereotypical fall colors, I think this collection fits the bill.

The next two mockups are from Riley Blake Designs. I've known of both designers for awhile for other reasons, but I think both are relatively new to designing fabric. First is Amber Elliot's Olive Grove collection. I think this is her second or third fabric collection and I love the earthly colors!

The second mockup is in JuJu's Petals by Judi Madsen. I was thinking this was her first collection, but I think I saw something recently that said it was her second. I think this collection is just arriving to shops and so far, I'm only finding it at Judi's shop, Green Fairy Quilts (search JuJu's Petals).

I have one final mockup to share today and that is in the Palette Pick's bundle called Heirloom by Brittany from Lo and Behold Stitchery. This bundle came out a while ago and it's getting pretty hard to find. I did find two shops on Etsy here (only one left as of today!) and here. I was planning to make this version as another sample so I already have the fabric, but I haven't had a chance to make it yet. Since I have the mockup already, I figured I'd share it in case anyone else has a bundle of this fabric and needs ideas for what to make with it. The green background is one of the fabrics in the bundle and is a Kona solid called Emerald. That doesn't seem to be widely available either, but right now, I've found it at three Etsy shops that I've purchased from before here, here, and here.

That's all for today! I hope these mockups have given you some inspiration and ideas for making your own Swiss Roll quilt. Or at least some pretty eye candy!

Until next time,

Amanda
