Fabric Refresh - Albion by Amy Smart for Riley Blake Designs

Albion by Amy Smart is a fabric collection that caught my eye a few months ago. This fabric from Riley Blake Designs is now showing up in quilt shops so this is the perfect time to share some of my quilt patterns that I refreshed with Albion fabrics.

The first pattern that I refreshed is Log Jam and this might be my favorite Albion mockup! I love this extra scrappy version with a variety of low volumes for the background instead of a single fabric.

Fabric Refresh - Flower Girl by My Sew Quilty Life for Moda Fabrics

I'm back with another Fabric Refresh blog post and this one is slightly different than usual. I normally don't feature a fabric collection that isn't available in shops yet. However, today I'm featuring a gorgeous collection by Heather Briggs of My Sew Quilty Life called Flower Girl. This debut collection is scheduled to arrive in shops this month, but as far as I can tell, it has not yet.

So why I am sharing the patterns I've refreshed in Flower Girl now? Well, I get Heather's newsletter and she mentioned a couple weeks ago that she has heard from some shops that they're already selling out. Since the fabric isn't in shops yet, I'm guessing that they are selling out with preorders. I'm sure there will be shops who don't do preorders who will have it available once it starts shipping to shops, but I figured if you get inspired by any of these mockups and want to make sure you get the fabric to make it, you might want to preorder it too.

Now let's get to the quilts! I can see why Flower Girl is turning out to be so popular. It is so soft and pretty and I had a great time playing with these fabrics in EQ8! So far, I've managed to avoid buy any because I definitely do not have time to be making any of these quilts myself. We'll see if I can continue to resist; I don't always have great luck with that!

If you really want to showcase these lovely fabrics, a Stay Square quilt would be a great option. Grab a layer cake and keep most of the square intact so that the fabrics really become the stars of the show! I used a Bella solid called Circa Celadon for the accent. This is one of the coordinating solids that the fabric designer chose for the Flower Girl collection.

Today I am featuring a recent Ruby Star Society release by Kimberly Kight called Lil. I'm currently getting ready to cut into this fabric myself to make a sample for what I think is going to be this year's jelly roll pattern release for National Jelly Roll Day. You'll have to wait until late August or early September to see that, but I have lots of patterns to share in Lil today to help you get your Ruby Star fix.

The first pattern I'm refreshing today is Easy Argyle, my only pattern that only uses yardage. It is very rare that I make a quilt with so few fabrics in it, but this is a great option if you want a really fast quilt without a bunch of different fabrics to worry about. 

I made two versions of Easy Argyle in Lil and the first is my favorite. I used the navy print with the apples and flowers and the dark gold/caramel colored print with the little white flowers as the two main fabrics. I used a pink print with a small scale print for the large diamonds and the white-on-white print with the small flowers for the small diamonds.

Fabric Refresh - Everglow by Tula Pink for Free Spirit Fabrics

Welcome to Fabric Refresh Week here at Pieced Just Sew! There are so many great fabric collections coming out lately and I've been spending a lot of time playing around in my Electric Quilt software refreshing my patterns with these fabrics. I have so many to share that I decided to feature a new fabric collection every day this week.

Let's kick things off with Tula Pink's Everglow collection for Free Spirit Fabrics. I'm not sure I've ever sewn with Tula Pink fabric myself, but I keep hearing about this collection, so I decided to check it out. I like how it's bright and colorful, but yet has a bit of a pastel feel to it. Maybe it's bright pastels? Is that a thing? Or an oxymoron?

Either way, I had a lot of fun playing with this collection in EQ8. The main prints are large scale and may not be fabrics that you want to cut into little pieces so I stuck with patterns that use bigger pieces.

Before I jump into the mock-ups, there is one thing I want to mention about this collection. Like I said, I haven't really sewn with Tula Pink and I'm not very familiar with her fabric collections. When I went to the Free Spirit website to look for the digital fabric swatches, there were only eight prints listed under Everglow. However, when I look for the fabric in shops online, such as Fat Quarter Shop or Etsy, many of the bundles include a lot more than eight fabrics. It appears that the Everglow bundles also include what Free Spirit is showing separately as Neon True Colors. 

I'm not sure if that's normal for Tula Pink or Free Spirit. Maybe that makes perfect sense to you if you're a Tula fan. I'm using both in these mock-ups. The main Everglow prints seem to be the busiest fabrics with the largest scale designs on them. The Neon True Colors are the stripes, polka dots, and the fabrics that have a lot of solid background showing with hearts, suns, and birds on them in a single color.

All right, let's get to what you're really here for! The first pattern that I refreshed was Town Hall. This is probably my best pattern for showcasing large scale fabrics due to the large squares. This pattern was made to be layer cake friendly but there are instructions for fat quarters as well.

Hello! I'm back with my first quilt mockup post in months and I'm changing things up a bit! You may have noticed that the title of this post is missing the "Friday" at the beginning of it. And that I'm not posting this on a Friday. There have been several times over the past three years of doing my Friday Fabric Refresh posts that it would have been more convenient to post on a day other than Friday.  So I decided to drop the Friday and just call these posts Fabric Refresh. Because any day of the week is a good day to share quilt mockups!

If you're new around here, my Fabric Refresh posts are where I refresh some of my quilt patterns by mocking them up in new fabrics and share them with you! I've been quilting a long time and I lost track a long time ago of how many times I saw a pattern and was not interested until I saw it in different fabrics. Suddenly, I couldn't wait to make it! I also like to see what a quilt will look like before I make it because sometimes what I picture in my head does not match reality!

If either of the above sound like you too, hopefully these posts will give you some ideas of how you might want to use a fabric collection that you've fallen in love with. Or maybe you've found a pattern of mine that you like, but want to make it in different fabrics and aren't quite sure what it will look like. Or maybe you just like looking at pretty quilts! I know I do!

Okay, let's jump right in! Today I'm featuring Sunwashed by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics. This collection is bright, cheery, full of pretty florals, and perfect for spring! 

The first refreshed quilt that I'm sharing today is Scrappy Herringbone which is a layer cake pattern. This is a great pattern if you want to avoid background fabric. It's also great if you have a fabric collection that has a lot of prints that match what you would use as a background fabric and you don't want to leave them out of your quilt. With this pattern, pretty much anything goes and you can use all the fabrics! Depending on which size quilt you choose from the pattern, you'll be using all or almost all of your layer cake squares so there is very little waste!

Friday Fabric Refresh - Strawberry Honey

Happy Friday!  Another Friday means another edition of Friday Fabric Refresh!  Have you seen the Strawberry Honey collection from Gracey Larson for Riley Blake Designs?  It is so bright and cheery!  There are pretty florals, cute strawberries, and adorable bears.  

I've been buying way too much fabric lately, but I gave in and got a fat quarter bundle.  I haven't decided for sure what I want to make yet, but I'm leaning towards remaking my Starry Skies pattern, shown below.  

Friday Fabric Refresh - Serenity

Happy Friday!  Anyone else in serious need of some serenity in their life?  It has been a rough few weeks around here.  Last week I almost reached my breaking point at my day job.  At one point, I just didn't care anymore and that is not like me.  I'm feeling better this week, but I definitely could use some calm and relaxation!  

Sewing and fabric always bring me joy and the new Serenity collection from Figo Fabrics is no exception!  I believe this is meant to be a basics collection, which means quilt shops should be able to reorder it if they sell out!  Which is great because there are so many quilts I want to make with it!  I don't have to feel pressured to buy a ton of fabric right now with the fear that I won't have enough when I need it!

If you haven't figured it out by now, I'm featuring Serenity this week for Friday Fabric Refresh.  I've refreshed a few of my patterns with these fabrics in case you are in need of some serenity yourself!

The quilt above is my very first pattern, Spun Sugar!  Choose one of the darker prints for the accent pinwheels and stick to the lighter fabrics for the blocks.  Then pick your favorite color for the setting triangles and you're all set!

I'm not sure if Figo Fabrics has traditional precuts like 2.5" strips or 10" squares, but that doesn't mean you can't make patterns that are written for precuts!  My Besotted pattern uses a layer cake, but with just 12 fat quarters, you could cut enough pieces for this quilt!

Flutter also usually uses a layer cake, but you can make this with only 11 fat quarters!  Of course, you can always use more for more variety.  Save the leftovers for another project!

Of course, if you'd rather stick with fat quarter patterns, I have plenty of those too!  Treasure Hunt has big, easy blocks if you're looking for something quick to put together.

If stars are more your thing, Shining Stars is another great option!  You can stick with a dark background like my original cover quilt or lighten things up with one of the lighter fabrics such as the light purple I've used below.

Evening Glow is another fabulous fat quarter quilt, with one of the darker fabrics in the collection as the accent.

If you're rather pick a couple favorite colors, you can use yardage to make an Easy Argyle quilt.  Use a light, cheerful color like the pink below for a fun quilt or stick with gray and black for a more sophisticated look!

Friday Fabric Refresh - Sugarcreek

Hello and happy Friday!  I'm back with another Friday Fabric Refresh!  An Instagram follower asked to see my Window Box pattern in Sugarcreek, so I had to oblige!

I love the Sugarcreek collection, so I decided to devote the entire post to this gorgeous fabric line by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics and share several other patterns in the fabric as well.  Let's jump right in!

First up, of course, is Window Box.  Thanks for the suggestion, Jeri!  Now I want to scour the internet for a Sugarcreek jelly roll!
