Fabric Refresh - Hey Boo by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

I'm sure you've heard of Christmas in July, but what about Halloween in April? That might not be a thing but a super fun Halloween collection has just started arriving in quilt shops and I think it's going to be a really popular one! I was excited for Lella Boutique's Hey Boo collection for Moda Fabrics from the moment it was first debuted several months ago. It's finally here and if you like it as much as I do, make sure you run to your favorite quilt shop and grab some because I'm pretty sure it won't be around for long!

If you love this fabric, but need some ideas for what to make with it, I've got you covered! Keep reading to check out some of my quilt patterns that I've refreshed with Hey Boo!

Fabric Refresh - Flower Girl by My Sew Quilty Life for Moda Fabrics

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

I'm back with another Fabric Refresh blog post and this one is slightly different than usual. I normally don't feature a fabric collection that isn't available in shops yet. However, today I'm featuring a gorgeous collection by Heather Briggs of My Sew Quilty Life called Flower Girl. This debut collection is scheduled to arrive in shops this month, but as far as I can tell, it has not yet.

So why I am sharing the patterns I've refreshed in Flower Girl now? Well, I get Heather's newsletter and she mentioned a couple weeks ago that she has heard from some shops that they're already selling out. Since the fabric isn't in shops yet, I'm guessing that they are selling out with preorders. I'm sure there will be shops who don't do preorders who will have it available once it starts shipping to shops, but I figured if you get inspired by any of these mockups and want to make sure you get the fabric to make it, you might want to preorder it too.

Now let's get to the quilts! I can see why Flower Girl is turning out to be so popular. It is so soft and pretty and I had a great time playing with these fabrics in EQ8! So far, I've managed to avoid buy any because I definitely do not have time to be making any of these quilts myself. We'll see if I can continue to resist; I don't always have great luck with that!

If you really want to showcase these lovely fabrics, a Stay Square quilt would be a great option. Grab a layer cake and keep most of the square intact so that the fabrics really become the stars of the show! I used a Bella solid called Circa Celadon for the accent. This is one of the coordinating solids that the fabric designer chose for the Flower Girl collection.

I'm back today with another Fabric Refresh post. Today's featured collection is Strawberry Lemonade by Sherri and Chelsi for Moda Fabrics. I have been waiting for months for this fabric to arrive in stores! It is so pretty and I'm actually in the middle of making a quilt with this fabric for a future quilt pattern. While I can't share that just yet, I can share some refreshed versions of other patterns. Let's jump right in!

Moda designer 1 Canoe 2 has a new fabric collection out now called Willow. If January is giving you the winter blahs, the Willow collection might be just what you need! The colors are so rich and saturated and these fabrics make me think of a summertime getaway.

I knew as soon as I saw this collection that I needed to refresh some of my patterns with Willow. I'm excited to share them with you today. Let's jump right in!

I have a new pattern available!! That might not seem like a big deal. I'm a pattern designer, after all. But for whatever reason, this particular pattern just couldn't seem to make it's way to the finish line. The Sandalwood pattern is finally in my shop and I can finally share this sample quilt that has been finished for almost two and a half years.

Fabric Refresh - Jelly Roll Day 2023

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

It's that time again! The annual National Sew a Jelly Roll Day is tomorrow, Saturday September 16th! You can read more about Jelly Roll Day HERE, but basically it's a day created by Moda Fabrics to celebrate all of those wonderful jelly roll patterns and spend the day sewing with your favorite 2.5" strips.

If you're ready to sew but still need a pattern to use, I've got you covered! This is the fourth year in a row that I've released a jelly roll pattern right before Jelly Roll Day and I'm hoping it's a tradition I can keep up.

I'm sharing a special jelly roll themed Fabric Refresh post today. I've picked three recent Moda Fabrics collections (one is Ruby Star Society, which is owned by Moda) and have refreshed each of my previous Jelly Roll Day releases (plus a few others) in each of those three fabric lines! There's even a free pattern included, so make sure you scroll all the way to the end of this post!

If you're looking for refreshed versions of my latest pattern, Wayward, you can find those in a separate post HERE.

The first pattern that I'm featuring today is Ophelia, which was my 2022 jelly roll pattern. I still sometimes can't believe how just the right combination of block, sashing, and cornerstone arrangement can take a very simple, not-very-exciting quilt block and turn it into an amazing design! (If I do say so myself, ha!)

The first Ophelia quilt that I'm sharing is in Sherri and Chelsi's latest collection, Bountiful Blooms. This quilt always looks a bit like flowers to me so this collection full of flower prints is perfect! I even went with a yellow print for the cornerstones to imitate flower centers.

Fabric Refresh - Wayward Quilt

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

Are you ready to see some refreshed Wayward quilt mock-ups? Wayward is my new jelly roll pattern released earlier this week. If you missed that, you can read about the cover quilt HERE, about a second sample quilt and how the name came to be HERE, or about a two-color version HERE.

But if you need even more inspiration for your own Wayward quilt, this is the post for you! I picked a few of my favorite recent fabric collections and refreshed Wayward with them. Let's jump right in!

But first, I want to mention something about these mock-ups. With the way the blocks are constructed, certain fabric combinations show up together multiple times within the quilt. However, that became way too hard to keep track of when coloring these digital images so I often just randomly assigned fabrics to various patches within the quilt. It shouldn't change the overall look of the quilt, but wanted to mention that in case you try to replicate my image exactly. You won't be to match the exact fabric placements shown here.

Okay, on to the quilts! First, I played around with Bountiful Blooms, the latest collection from Sherri and Chelsi to arrive in quilt shops.

One of the things I love about Bountiful Blooms is that it feels like a combination of summer and fall. It feels a little too bright and cheery to be a fall fabric line, but it also feels a little darker and more muted that what you might expect for a summer quilt. This is the perfect fabric collection if you're ready to shift into those cooler autumn months but aren't quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet!

Background fabric can also make a difference in how a quilt "feels." The first mock-up below has a bright white background and maybe leans more towards a summer feel.

I'm back to share another Wayward quilt with you to celebrate the release of my newest quilt pattern! This year is the fourth year that I've released a jelly roll pattern just in time for National Sew a Jelly Roll Day! It feels like tradition now so hopefully I'll be able to keep it up in future years!

Fabric Refresh - Berry Basket by April Rosenthal for Moda Fabrics

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

The Fourth of July is just days away here in the United States which means it is the perfect time to sew with some red, white, and blue fabrics! Luckily, the amazing Berry Basket collection by April Rosenthal for Moda Fabrics recently started showing up in shops and this fabric is the perfect collection to feature for a Fabric Refresh blog post as we wrap up June and head into the thick of summer.

As soon as I saw this fabric in the Moda catalog, I knew I wanted to refresh my Log Jam pattern with it. Berry Basket has dark red and navy prints, plus lighter pink, aqua, gray, and white prints. It looked like there was about an even split between light and dark. Log Jam normally can be made with a print jelly roll and a solid jelly roll, but I wanted to see what it would look like if I used two Berry Basket jelly rolls and used the lighter prints in place of a solid jelly roll. It turned out as great as I was hoping it would!

Fabric Refresh - Sunnyside by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

It's Day 3 of Fabric Refresh Week and I can hardly believe it's halfway over already! So far we've been inspired by Tula Pink's Everglow and AGF Studio's Spooky 'n Witchy. Have you been remembering to use the coupon codes to save on the featured patterns each day? They're only good for a couple of days so if you missed out on the first two, make sure to keep reading so that you don't miss today's code!

Today I'm featuring a collection with a much more traditional feel to it. You might know Camille Roskelley as one half of the mother-daughter team behind the super popular Bonnie and Camille fabrics from Moda Fabrics. Since Bonnie has retired, Camille has been continuing on her own and I fell in love with her Sunnyside collection as soon as she first debuted it (it was the burgundy prints that got me!) and then had to wait months for it be available!

Well, it's finally here and I already grabbed some for a couple of future pattern samples. You'll have to wait a while to see those but you should grab some Sunnyside fabric now and if you need some ideas of what to make with it, this is the blog post for you!

The first pattern that I refreshed in Sunnyside was Americana. I love star quilts and while the pattern was named for the reds and blues used in the original cover quilt, this pattern looks great in a variety of fabrics and I love it in Sunnyside. These colors together make me think of a beautiful garden. This pattern uses 18 fat quarters so you can pick a wide variety of colors and prints to make a very colorful and scrappy-looking quilt.

Fabric Refresh - Christmas Eve by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

Are you ready for Christmas? It may only be the beginning of June, but I'm sure the rest of the year is going to fly by. I swear it was just January yesterday!

This time of year is when the Christmas fabric collections start showing up in shops. One recent release is Christmas Eve by Vanessa Goertzen of Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics. It has a classic Christmas feel with deep reds and evergreen greens plus a variety of grays and snowy whites. If you loved her Christmas Morning collection from two years ago, you'll love this one too! It's very similar.

Today I'm sharing several of my patterns refreshed with Christmas Eve fabric. I probably could have refreshed all of my patterns but I finally made myself stop after nine (though some of those nine have multiple versions!)

Ophelia was the first quilt I was itching to refresh in Christmas Eve. Since Ophelia is my most recent pattern (well, recent as in I haven't released one since; it's been available since last September), I haven't had a chance to refresh it in traditional Christmas colors until now. And I love it as much as I knew I would!

Fabric Refresh - Sunwashed by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

Hello! I'm back with my first quilt mockup post in months and I'm changing things up a bit! You may have noticed that the title of this post is missing the "Friday" at the beginning of it. And that I'm not posting this on a Friday. There have been several times over the past three years of doing my Friday Fabric Refresh posts that it would have been more convenient to post on a day other than Friday.  So I decided to drop the Friday and just call these posts Fabric Refresh. Because any day of the week is a good day to share quilt mockups!

If you're new around here, my Fabric Refresh posts are where I refresh some of my quilt patterns by mocking them up in new fabrics and share them with you! I've been quilting a long time and I lost track a long time ago of how many times I saw a pattern and was not interested until I saw it in different fabrics. Suddenly, I couldn't wait to make it! I also like to see what a quilt will look like before I make it because sometimes what I picture in my head does not match reality!

If either of the above sound like you too, hopefully these posts will give you some ideas of how you might want to use a fabric collection that you've fallen in love with. Or maybe you've found a pattern of mine that you like, but want to make it in different fabrics and aren't quite sure what it will look like. Or maybe you just like looking at pretty quilts! I know I do!

Okay, let's jump right in! Today I'm featuring Sunwashed by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics. This collection is bright, cheery, full of pretty florals, and perfect for spring!

The first refreshed quilt that I'm sharing today is Scrappy Herringbone which is a layer cake pattern. This is a great pattern if you want to avoid background fabric. It's also great if you have a fabric collection that has a lot of prints that match what you would use as a background fabric and you don't want to leave them out of your quilt. With this pattern, pretty much anything goes and you can use all the fabrics! Depending on which size quilt you choose from the pattern, you'll be using all or almost all of your layer cake squares so there is very little waste!

Hello!  Can you believe it's November already?!  Fall is in full swing, although I wouldn't necessarily know it living in the south!  A blog reader recently commented with a request to see some patterns refreshed in Slow Stroll, the newest collection from Fancy That Design House for Moda Fabrics.  These fabrics have a definite fall feel to them so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to showcase this collection.  Let's jump right in!

Scrappy Herringbone Quilt in Spooky Darlings by Ruby Star Society

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

Today I'm sharing my Scrappy Herringbone quilt made with a layer cake of Spooky Darlings by Ruby Star Society.  The designers of Ruby Star Society recently chose several quilters to be part of their Ruby Star Makers group and I was surprised and thrilled to have been one of them!

That means that they send me fabric from one of their new or upcoming collections and I get to make something with it and share it with you!  There was a sign up list with the available fabrics and the choices went fast but I managed to snag a layer cake of their collaborative Halloween collection, Spooky Darlings.

If you need some inspiration to help you decide what fabric to choose, hopefully this post will help you out.  I have refreshed Ophelia in some other fabrics and I wish I had time to make them all!

Friday Fabric Refresh - Christmas in July from Modern to Traditional

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

Happy Friday!  I'm cutting it close but I'm squeezing in a Christmas in July version of Friday Fabric Refresh on the last Friday of the month.  There are always lots of new Christmas fabrics arriving in quilt shops this time of year.  I decided to choose three collections in three different styles and share some refreshed quilts in each.

Christmas in the City is a modern line from Art Gallery Fabrics that is currently shipping to shops.  Christmas Stitched is a traditional collection from Fig Tree for Moda Fabrics should also be arriving soon.  And finally, Pixie Noel 2 by Tasha Noel for Riley Blake Designs, which is available now, sort of falls in between modern and traditional.  There might be a name for that particular style, but I'm not sure what it is.  If you know, please let me know in the comments!

Friday Fabric Refresh - Stay Square Quilt Pattern Round-up

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

Happy Friday!  Lately I've been thinking a lot about my Stay Square pattern.  It has been my most popular pattern release by far.  I shared a reel on Instagram this week of the quilt I made with Spooky 'n Sweeter and I was thinking back on all the mockups I have made of Stay Square.  I don't think I've ever tried a fabric collection that didn't look great with this pattern.  I decided to try something a little different for this week's Friday Fabric Refresh blog post and do a sort of "round-up" of all my Stay Square mockups.  Many have been shared before, but there are a few new ones that you are seeing here for the first time!

There are going to be a lot of pictures in this post and not too many words.  I'm going to skip the commentary and just give you the fabric information and a link to the original blog post that the mockup appeared on, if applicable.  Since it may get a little confusing as you scroll through, I will be placing the fabric name below each mockup.

A quick note about fabric requirements.  Some of these fabric collections do not have precut 10" squares (layer cakes) available.  The pattern does include instructions for fat quarters.  You need 12 but feel free to use more for more variety.  If a collection has less than 12 fabrics or less than 12 that you want to use, another option is to buy 9 half yards (or 1/3 yards if your quilt shop will cut that size) and cut four 10" squares from each.

Enjoy!

Garden Charm Quilt From Stars & Stripes Scraps

Note:  This post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a commission (at no extra cost to you) if you click a link and make a purchase.

Can you believe it’s almost July?  I certainly can’t, but it’s happening anyway whether I like it or not!  Around this time, I see a lot of people making flag quilts.  One of the most popular flag patterns of the last several years has been Stars & Stripes by Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms.  I’ve made this quilt twice myself and have a third in the works.

About a year ago, I shared a blog post detailing how I planned to use the leftover fat quarter pieces from one of my flag quilts to make a second quilt using my Garden Charm pattern.  I realized recently that I never blogged about that quilt once I actually made it.  With Independence Day just days away, I figured this would be a good time to do that and to revisit that original blog post.
